The End of an Era

I just closed my CitiBank account.

This is the bank account I got when I moved to NYC.

It's the bank account I had when I actually started reading my statements and handling my money like an adult. It is the bank account I had when I finally became, as Charlotte Bronte would say, an Independent Woman.

I was mightily disappointed when I moved to Columbia and found that all the CitiBanks in Howard County had been bought by Bank of America.

Eight years. *sniff*

And the operator closed the account without questions or pressure and thanked me for my business.

I know the high muckety mucks have been in trouble in the past, but I'd still recommend CitiBank to anyone.

I still have my very first bank account. It was opened the day after I was born. I've moved most of my money out of it, but I keep it around as source of backup emergency funds. And I had to use it once, to cover a check that I had written from the wrong account and needed to get funds to it immediately. I withdrew several thousand dollars in cash (not trusting them to credit the deposit instantly), ran them across town, and deposited them.

The banks at which I had my first three bank accounts are all long gone; my first bank account may not have been closed, but if not there was less than $10 in it when we moved.
