The portrait of Richard II's coronation (aka the Wilton Diptych) is the painting of the month over at the British National Gallery. Hee.

For those of you who just can't wait. )

I love that I can recognize childhood depictions of 600-year-old monarchs on sight...

EDIT: I know that it isn't actually his coronation. It's Richard's theoretical presentation to the Virgin, but it's generally conceded that the all gold outfit he's wearing in the portrait is a representation of the golden clothes (and jewelry, and shoes--no kidding, shoes) he did wear when he was crowned at the age of ten.
