So, [livejournal.com profile] torberg and I are getting ready to get back into the world of cat sponsorship. I was trolling idly around Petfinder when I ran across these two gentlemen, Morty and Max. They seem tail-or made (ha ha) for our situation. They're orange and cream, not black and white (I'd like to stay away from tuxedo kitties--I want the next generation to be successors, not replacements); they're boys, which I prefer in pets; and they're two brothers, which is good because Tor and I were considering getting two cats to keep each other company while we're at work during the day. And of course, best of all, they're manxes.

There are only two hurdles in our way. The first is the landlord. He was badly burned by pet owners (the last tenants apparently kept a large dog in the basement and it left ample, ah, evidence of its presence). However, he'd agreed to Darcy and to that end we paid him an extra $200 in our deposit. Plus he's a pretty laid-back guy so long as we take good care of the house. Secondly, the boys are currently in the custody of Lawyers in Defense of Animals in Plainsfield, NJ. If they decide they don't want to do a long distance adoption, this is dead in the water.

Sooo, we'll see what we see. And if it works out, I'll definitely be looking for name suggestions. (Pending [livejournal.com profile] torberg's agreement, I'm tempted to stick with the Jane Austen theme: Elliot and Wentworth, perhaps?)

ETA: The very nice woman at LIDA (who has a voice like Diane Rehm) was practically expecting a interstate adoption. The only real hoop to jump through on their end is Gary (the landlord) and arranging a weekend to go up and meet the little beggars. Cross your fingers (or, in [livejournal.com profile] zorrothedog's, Cruiser's, Audrey's, Max's, [livejournal.com profile] lucadavid's, Sha'Ori's, Sagan's, Wraith's, and Selina's cases, paws) for us!

Darcy
July 14, 1996-December 16, 2006

He was one of a kind. We'll miss you, D. Boomer's waiting for you, and there's plenty of tuna and pigeons to pounce on. You left us way too soon, buddy.

So, Darcy's definitely sick, we're still not sure with exactly what. Vet appointment is pending.

But many of you out there on my friends list have cats, have had cats, or have had sick cats. Or any combination thereof.

I'm torn between pushing for a companion (the number of manxes on PetFinder.com is a bit staggering) for him, or just letting him be an "only child."

I'm leaning toward only-childhood, because I don't want to stress him out any more than he already is. But on the other hand I really worry about how lonely he might get, especially with me not getting home before six once we move.

So what do you all, especially those who know his imperial majesty, think?

Here I am, trying to write a very intense scene where Giles just completely dresses down Andrew.

And now I have the Chicken Dance running through my head. Oy.

Thanks for the well wishes, everybody. I'm doing better. It was just a terrible shock. The fuzzy little dork, on the other hand, doesn't even know anything's different. *roll eyes*

75-95% chance Darcy has cancer.

I'm lost.

This is my cat, Darcy

Handsome, isn't he? When I got him ten years ago, he was only six weeks old and could fit in the palm of my hand. At his last vet appointment he weighed in at 17.9 pounds (down .5 pounds in a month!) and stands about 18 inches at the shoulder. Even when he loses the weight (he's got 1.5-2.0 more pounds to go), he's going to be a big boy. And no, you shouldn't adjust your screen: he has no tail. Darcy's a manx.

...and aside from the blinding headache, it was pretty good.

Now, to make up, a couple of quizes:

I am the superheroine... )

I wasn't thrilled with the following quiz. I didn't like all the "either-or" questions. I fell in the middle with a lot of these, picking the lesser of two stupidities.

Big shocker here. )

ETA:More quizes...

How Blonde Am I? )

And for [livejournal.com profile] gumboy, who is far away persuing the quest of a lifetime...

Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. )

Interesting movie. About 25 minutes too long, though.

And in other news, the birds are back in my backyard with a vengeance. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that means the return of "How Will Darcy Injure Himself Trying to Catch the Birds through a Plate Glass Patio Door." He's already flung himself up against it twice. Once I heard the crack of his little cranium. Nothing like watching an 18 pound manx try to be stealthy.
