icewolf: snowy wolf (and the funny just keeps on coming)
There's a movie coming out in 2008. Valkyrie. It's about a plot to assassinate Hitler during WWII. There are some outstanding names. Kenneth Branaugh. Eddie Izzard. Bill Nighy. Patrick Wilson. Stephen Fry.

And this mind-boggling cast is headed up by...

...wait for it...

...Tom Cruise.

Like a bad punchline on a perfectly set up joke, isn't it?

Seriously, as far as I'm concerned, the man didn't make another movie after A Few Good Men.

I have no love for Tom Cruise, but I have to ask... have you seen COLLATERAL?

I mean, I just have crazy love for Michael Mann, so there you go. But I thought Tom actually acted there, and was pretty darn good.

No, and if you say he actually acts instead of strutting around overacting, I'll give it a shot. As much as it galls me to put any royalty money in his pocket.

Trust me, I'm right there with you. But my love for Michael Mann trumps all (MANHUNTER, HEAT, LAST OF THE MOHICANS), and so I reluctantly check it out. I was very, very pleased. Not brilliant, but a strong and solid film. If I recall correctly, Cruise actually reigns it in very nicely, and does the best work of his I've seen in years.

MAKE THE BAD MAN STOP!

He must not lay a single freakazoid finger on my beloved Branagh, Izzard, and Fry.

(Minority Report was good.)

Collateral was a great movie, but mostly because of Jamie Foxx. Awesome job on his part.

I too cringed when I saw the stuff about Valkyrie. It kinda reminded me of Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing....one of these things is not like the others...

I just say

Yes, but did you hear the German government has said that if he gets the part, it will not allow any filming in German and especially in the in the rooms where the real events took place? This would be because Scientology is a cu- *cough* an unrecognized religion in Germany.

Here's a thought

Let's set up a sham production company and come up with a script for a 1800's period piece set in the wilds of Africa. We'll get Cruise, Mel Gibson, and Keanu Reeves to headline the thing. We'll airlift them into the jungles of the Congo for a four week "boot camp" where they live off the land to help prepare them for their roles.

We'll then forget where we left them.
