I am, at best, an interested onlooker in the world of comics. I owe most of what I know to my gaming group and husband. I don't read anything on a regular basis, although I try to remember to haul myself to the comic store for Buffy: Season Eight, Angel: Season Six, and Fables (
cats_n_crying , stop twitching).
That being said, I find this essay on the recent continuity rollback of Spiderman absolutely facinating, even though I don't actually read the comic. I'm interested in what the more comic book-literate of my friendslist thinks about it.
I do know that I've witnessed the same phenomena in "regular" fiction writers, such as Mercedes Lackey and Laurell K. Hamilton. Granted there were other circumstances to go along with the laziness/pandering to a misunderstood and underestimated fanbase that
theferrett cites, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

The fact that the writer (and BABYLON 5 creator) Straczynski went on record to say how much he hated it and didn't want to write the story... that's amazing.
I'm honestly just heartened to see fans standing up against shitty storytelling for once, rather than just swallowing whatever the Big Boys shove down their throats.
