Writers and such...

I am, at best, an interested onlooker in the world of comics. I owe most of what I know to my gaming group and husband. I don't read anything on a regular basis, although I try to remember to haul myself to the comic store for Buffy: Season Eight, Angel: Season Six, and Fables (cats_n_crying , stop twitching).

That being said, I find this essay on the recent continuity rollback of Spiderman absolutely facinating, even though I don't actually read the comic. I'm interested in what the more comic book-literate of my friendslist thinks about it.

I do know that I've witnessed the same phenomena in "regular" fiction writers, such as Mercedes Lackey and Laurell K. Hamilton. Granted there were other circumstances to go along with the laziness/pandering to a misunderstood and underestimated fanbase that theferrett cites, but I find it interesting nonetheless.

That essay could easily be applied to "Charmed" and its writers. (The only problem would be, in that case, that the essay was far too charitable.)

Leaving my twitching aside for the moment (looove youuuuuuu), I have to say that I'd be a lot more upset about this whole Spider-Man thing if it weren't already universally loathed.

This is an exceedingly rare occurence where fandom is united in their opinion, and even softball comic websites are being critical and tough. The fact that the writer (and BABYLON 5 creator) Straczynski went on record to say how much he hated it and didn't want to write the story... that's amazing.

I'm honestly just heartened to see fans standing up against shitty storytelling for once, rather than just swallowing whatever the Big Boys shove down their throats.
