Hot damn!

Google has started doing public transit directions. Which is absolutely fabulous for those of us who have public transportation, but a really sucky public transit information website.

Yay! I'm no longer feeling quite so confined when [livejournal.com profile] torberg needs to take the car.

Google is awesome. Did you know you can look up pretty much every patent at www.google.com/patents?

Is there anything these people Don't do (aside from my laundry and dishes)?

Go to maps.google.com.

Click "Get Directions."

There is now a drop-down box that offers the following options: "by car" and "walking."

Once you get the directions, if Google has the mass transit info, one of your options, in the blue box marked "Also available," is Public Transit.

It's weird--they have Baltimore, but not New York City.

Yeah, I don't think they have it for Boston yet.

They have *Chicago*, but not New York City. Friggin' CHICAGO!!!

Aww... they don't seem to have the DC metro in, cuz I wasn't able to get directions to the DC Arts Center by anything but car and foot. Still... really looking forward to that.

I've never been entirely clear on the best way to get to DCAC, and the last time I tried I missed Hefner's show. I managed to get absolutely pessimal train-transfer times, missing one transfer in which I watched the train doors as I got off the stairs, and waited 15 minutes for the next one.

Then I got lost.

I'm guessing they're adding the mass transit systems in ascending order of complexity, given that they have Chicago and Baltimore, but not New York, DC, or Boston.

OMG. That is FANTASTIC.
