Summary Statement:
Ms. ... began class with a warm up exercise on narrowing an essay topic. After students completed the handout, she went over it with them. She then began a discussion of plagiarism, asking students how they would feel if someone stole their papers. Students were given a handout defining plagiarism and were told the penalties for plagiarized work at PGCC. The class then went over documentation basics.
Ms. ... is an energetic teacher whose good humor, clear organization, and subject knowledge help engage her students in the learning process. Her warm up exercise, which she grades as homework, provides a good rememdy for lateness since students cannot make up the work if they are not present. She is also very encouraging, at one point praising a student for "thinking outside the box" and later providing them with a good reason not to plagiarize besides being caught--no learning will occur if they use someone else's work. This was a solid class that was a pleasure to observe.
